What is a key2benefits prepaid Mastercard? How does it work? When does it expire? Is it a substitute for my insurance card or can I use it for all benefits I receive? These are some of the most common questions I receive from clients who are trying to find out more about this new credit card from Key Bank.

The Key2benefits prepaid Mastercard (mobile) program was designed by KeyBank, a local bank. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has partnered with KeyBank to offer greater control for claimants over how they get benefit payments. Claimants will have the ability to use their account for purchases at participating gas stations and on select online shopping sites like BestBuy or Wal-Mart. Also, the program allows the claimant to withdraw cash using a debit card at any participating electronic check reader located around the world. The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) was created to make sure that you have an electronic way to send money internationally.

The Electronic Funds Transfer Act lets you send money to anyone who you want. That's really great if you're a retailer and you need to do business with a customer abroad. Without a traditional bank account, you would have to rely on a third party, which would probably delay the process or increase the cost of receiving payments. That's because banks charge fees every time a transaction is made. With the Key2benefits prepaid Mastercard, you only pay a one-time, non-refundable fee that locks your card in your account so you can't use it anywhere else.

How does the EFT work? When you make a purchase with your Key2benefits prepaid Mastercard, it's automatically converted into an EFT. Then, you complete your transaction with a local ATM or a merchant service online. Your prepaid debit card balance stays where it's assigned. There are no credit card transaction fees, so your debit card balance doesn't go down during the course of making purchases. Your money keeps going in your pocket!

How do you get a Key2benefits Prepaid Debit Card? There are two ways to sign up for a Key2benefits Prepaid Mastercard: You can apply for a prepaid debit card from the U.S. Department of Labor, or you can sign up through an online portal. In either case, once you have been approved for a Key2benefits Prepaid MasterCard, you will receive a unique eight-digit code through your email that enables you to enroll in the program. You'll also get a toll-free call center that provides you with support and advice throughout the process.

The Department of Labor's EFT application form is available online. It can be downloaded, printed out, and filled out. After submitting the form, you'll be given an eight-digit EFT number that's valid for one month. You can withdraw your EFT at any participating U.S. participating bank ATM and at participating merchants that accept EFTs from the U.S. Department of Labor's EFT system, including Wal-Mart, Kinko's, Sam's Club, Target, Best Buy, BP America, Holiday Inn, chains of restaurants owned by Merchant Bank, PayDotCom, Shopfront, and other participating retailers.

How do you pay for a Key2Benefits Prepaid Mastercard? Online transactions are processed through PayPal, which ensures the security of your account. You can also use your debit card to pay for items that you purchase online. If you don't see a payment button on an online page, don't worry; your transaction fees won't apply.

Before you submit the online application, ensure that you have provided the correct U.S. government unemployment benefits information, such as date of birth, social security number, date of termination, and address. The process starts after you submit the registration, so make sure to submit your data as soon as possible to avoid delays. Be careful about clicking the submit button to start the process; this is not what will end up saving your card balance and allowing it to reach its destination. If at any time you do not see a payment button or your information is incomplete, call your bank immediately.
